WRINKLES : The Basic Causes

A fold or ridge on the skin is called a wrinkle. Wrinkles, they say, are road maps to your life because we all have wrinkles when we continue to grow old.

However, some people develop wrinkles even before attaining old age. This is due to the fact that they might have exposed themselves to some conditions that cause wrinkles. It is a common thing that we do not want our ages to tell on our faces so there is a need for us to explore the causes of wrinkles so that we will be able to prevent it.

Causes of Wrinkles

Wrinkles are caused by many factors but in this post, I will explain Four Basic Causes of Wrinkles.

1. Age : As old age sets in, the dermis which is the middle layer of the skin continues to grow thin. The skin becomes less elastic and the collagen (protein source) cells breakdown. This causes the skin to depress thereby forming wrinkles. The skin, at the stage, finds it difficult to heal after an injury.

2. Ultraviolet radiation from the sun: Exposure to the ultra violet radiation from the sun can cause premature aging. The ultraviolet radiation from the sun damages the collagen in the skin and in the process of collagen reformation by the skin, ridges or folds i.e. wrinkles are formed on the skin.

3. Sudden/Rapid weight loss: This is another cause of wrinkles that people are not aware of. A sudden loss of weight due to illness can also cause the skin to sag and have lines.

4. Facial expressions: It has been proved from research that expressions like too much frowning and squeezing of the face in the form of crying can cause wrinkles.

These are the four basic causes of wrinkles. If you don't want to have premature wrinkles, then it is better you try to prevent wrinkles. Watch out for my next post on prevention of wrinkles.
